Well Visits

We feel that well-child examinations are important tool in early detection of problems having to do with your child’s health and development. At a well child exam, your child will be weighed and measured and given a complete physical examination by the doctor. Before the physical exam, complete history will be taken by the nurse regarding diet, sleep patterns, daily habits, and developmental tasks, with problem areas noted for the doctor. You will be given instructions and handouts on subjects pertinent to your child’s age and developmental stage. Preschool and school age children will have a hearing test, vision exam and language assessment. Periodic lab work and immunizations are done at well checks to assess and maintain your child’s good health. This is also a time to ask questions you may have regarding your child’s health, growth, and development.

A well child examination with our doctors can sometimes be quite lengthy, so only a limited number can be done each day. Depending on the time of year, it may be necessary to schedule well-child exams up to 2-3 months ahead of time. Please realize that this practice puts a great deal of emphasis on teaching you how best to take care of all aspects of your child’s health, and that requires adequate time.
